Nipmuc Fine Arts Festival 2013

On May 14th at 6:00pm Nipmuc is proud to hold the opening of its annual Fine Arts Festival. Each year our school looks forward to this opportunity to display the amazing work of our student-artists. If you have ever enjoyed the chance to walk Nipmuc's halls, then you are familiar with the impressive art that is created in our award-winning art program. Art teachers Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Clish, along with all of their students, are excited to welcome you to view more than one thousand pieces of student art, including portfolios for many of our Advanced Placement students and upperclassmen. The art show opens at 6pm on Tuesday, 5/14 in the Nipmuc gymnasium.

I also want to make parents aware that some of the work of our Advanced Placement students deals with mature themes including drugs/alcohol abuse and self-harm or "cutting". Due to the mature nature of the themes and the artwork, some of this work will be placed in specific sections of the gym, allowing those who attend the Fine Arts Festival to choose if they would like to view the work. If your child plans to attend the art show tomorrow night, I encourage you to attend with him/her.

Our students' paintings, photography, illustrations, sculpture, and all other forms of art have become a great source of pride for our school. I invite everyone to share in that pride on Tuesday night. We hope to see you there.

Feliz viaje (Have a good trip), Nipmuc Travelers!

We wish Mr. Pezzote and his ten student-travelers the best as they embark on a week-long trip to Spain. Beginning in Madrid and working their way south, our students will have the chance to experience Spanish culture, try new foods, enjoy an evening of flamenco, and create memories that will last forever. For those students who have come through the Spanish immersion program or who have studied Spanish at Nipmuc, the trip also provides a wonderful way to put their knowledge of the language to use.

Good luck, Mr. Pezzote and his students. We hope you have a wonderful trip!

Award Winning Performance at the MICCA Festival

Band Director Michael Morel and junior
Rachel Plante displaying the award from today's performance.
Once again, the Nipmuc band deserves a round of applause for another stellar performance. After several weeks of practicing and refining its playing, the band took the stage earlier today at the annual Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) concert festival. The results didn't disappoint. The band scored 39 out of a possible 45 points, earning a silver medal - only two points shy of a gold medal performance.

Under the direction of Mr. Michael Morel, the band has worked hard over the course of the past few weeks to get ready for the event. They first performed the concert program at a pre-festival concert held at Nipmuc on March 27. The group followed this performance with two evening rehearsals held last week to further ready the group for this exciting event. Congratulations to all of our students and Mr. Morel for their well-deserved success.
